Environmental Sensing Laboratory

The Environmental Sensing Laboratory exploits the possibilities offered by scientific observation of the built environment. It is operated by the Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) Group of the energy department and is equipped with cutting-edge sensing devices to monitor thermal and luminous variables and indoor air quality to characterise indoor building spaces and the urban environment.

The SBE group has a consolidated knowledge and experience in indoor environmental quality monitoring and assessment, and its members have contributed to develop the ASHRAE Global Thermal Comfort Database II and the ASHRAE Global Occupant Behavior Database.

The Environmental Sensing Laboratory is equipped with Class A sensors, thermo fluxmeters, infrared thermal cameras, weather stations.
