Work for this project involved a detailed assessment of the impact of changes in the energy system of Cyprus on the emissions of atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases (GHG).
This aimed at significantly aiding the Cyprus Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism (MECIT) in defining the appropriate policy mix for achieving the future energy and climate goals for 2030 and setting the ambitious goals until 2050, in the frame of the legislative obligations of the Republic of Cyprus related to the Governance of the Energy Union and the broader EU decarbonisation objectives.
For this purpose, an existing version of the OSeMOSYS energy model for the Republic of Cyprus was enhanced, in order to account for emissions of atmospheric pollutants and GHG, and conduct model-based policy assessments.
