Enhancement of PROTEAS’ BSRN Grade Station

The goal of the project is to further upgrade the capabilities of the ARES’s group PROTEAS facility (Platform for Research, Observation and TEchnological Applications in Solar energy), to measure solar radiation and other meteorological variables of interest, beyond the quality levels of the established Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN) grade station that the facility is equipped. To achieve this, the station was equipped with a state-of-the-art sky Imaging camera (EKO ASI-16), that is able to provide real-time hemispherical images of the sky. These images are invaluable to: a) complement solar radiation measurements and to facilitate the assessment of its quality; b) assist in forecasting the time evolution of the solar radiation at PROTEAS, which is very important for the operation of the PROTEAS’ microgrid and for the planning of the tests.
