Head of the PROTEAS Facility Operations, of the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC), of the Cyprus Institute, Dr. Georgiou is a core member of the Energy and Renewables Group for the last 8 years. His mainly focus is the implementation of the CSP – DSW project (Concentrated Solar Power for Cogeneration of Electricity and Desalination of Sea Water) both from the scientific prospective so as from the operational and maintenance.
Prior to his engagement as the Head of the PROTEAS Facility Operations he has been a postdoctoral Research at the Cyprus Institute for two years, working on the experimental characterization of the storage receiver (iSTORE) and the thermal characterization of energy storage and heat extraction from various subsystems of this pilot CSP plant. He holds a Bachelor and a Master Diploma Degree (BSc and MSc) in Physics from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and a PhD in Environmental and Atmospheric Sciences from the Cyprus Institute, with his research focusing on Solar Thermal Desalination.
Dr. Georgiou is a highly experienced physicist with excellent technical and experimental skills combined with strong academic and theoretical background. Within the last 5 years, Marios has participated in several conferences mainly focusing on Solar Desalination and Concentrating Solar Power, as a presented so as an invited speaker and chaired several sessions on this topic. Marios also has experience in participation and preparation of joint research projects and proposals with several European Institutions and Universities.
Dr Georgiou has several publications in the field of concentrated solar power and desalination in both journals and international conferences and apart from research he has a wide range of teaching experiences including laboratory instructing and mentoring of Master and Bachelor students.
